Structuring archaeological evidence : the Archaeological Map of the Czech Republic and related information systems

This publication provides comprehensive information on „national“ database systems in the archaeology of the Czech Republic. It summarizes results of a certain phase of development of these systems that began after the political changes in 1989 and was characterized by a rapid expansion of digital technologies. The Archaeological Map of the CR is conceived here as the backbone infrastructure of Czech archaeology. It combines a branch administrative information system for the management of archaeological fieldwork with administration of the knowledge about their results, including retrospective archaeological data collected since the late 19th century.
